A Madisonville man was arrested on DUI charges after a Thursday afternoon wreck and allegedly assaulted a police officer at the hospital.
The report from the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year old Reuben Lee Gibson ran off the road near Bean Cemetery in the community of Pleasant View around 3:30. His vehicle reportedly went partially over a guard rail Gibson backed into a tree in an attempt to get it dislodged.
Sheriff’s deputies charged Gibson with DUI, but the jail turned him down until he was medically evaluated due to his level of intoxication. Police say Gibson became combative at the hospital and assaulted a deputy and a medical technician.
Only minor injuries resulted from the confrontations, but they resulted in two assault charges tacked on for Gibson in addition to DUI.
