Coast Guard and ship company working on bridge debris removal plan

The next major step to complete at the Eggner’s Ferry Bridge collapse site is to remove the 322 foot section of concrete and steel off of the still stationary vessel—and then remove the debris off the bottom of Kentucky Lake.

Coast Guard Spokesman Lieutenant Ron Easley says Foss Maritime and the Coast Guard are working together on a plan for wreckage and debris removal, which could begin in a matter of days.

Lieutenant Easley says that plans will have to be approved by top Coast Guard officials and then the process may begin—however long it may take.

Some equipment needed for the process is already on scene, but the Lieutenant says more is on the way.
