Rep. Myron Dossett to run for re-election, upset with district lines

Ninth District State Representative Myron Dossett isn’t easily angered, but is admittedly upset about the re-districting plan passed by the State House earlier this week in Frankfort.

The bill gave a much larger portion of Christian County to 15th District State Representative Brent Yonts of Greenville—all the way to the house across Nashville Street in Pembroke from Representative Dossett’s home.

In fact, anyone living north of U.S. 41 will be voting in the 15th District under the proposed bill, after being in the 9th for over 20 years.

Representative Dossett, a Republican, says he would be honored to serve the people of Madisonville—now included in his proposed district, but couldn’t believe where the Democratically controlled house drew the line.

Dossett had held off on announcing his candidacy for re-election until seeing where the lines would be drawn, but says he will run against friend and fellow Republican Ben Wade of Hopkins County in May. The State Senate still has to vote on the plan, though Dossett says he expects it to pass.
