It’s not often that a rumor is the major story out of a local government meeting, but that was the case at this morning’s meeting of the Todd County Fiscal Court.
Todd County Attorney Harold “Mac” Johns says the rumor is that 3rd District State Senator Joey Pendleton will no longer represent Todd anymore under a planned re-districting plan that could be voted on by the senate next week.
The proposal would place Todd in a seven-county area including Logan, Allen, Monroe, Metcalfe and Simpson.
Johns says Todd is better off with Senator Pendleton representing it in Frankfort.
Nothing is set in stone and Johns urged Magistrates to talk to whoever may be able to help about keeping the 3rd District in tact.
Senator Pendleton said he had heard of that rumor, but doesn’t know if that will be what happens. He says he has represented Caldwell and Muhlenberg Counties before and he’ll be fine with having them again. In the House, 16th District Representative Martha Jane King would keep Todd and Logan Counties and gain a small portion of Warren under the current plan.
In other business, court approved final reading of budgets for the County Clerk and Sheriff’s offices.
