Kentucky State Police respond to fatal wreck

Kentucky State Police responded to a fatal wreck that occurred early this morning in Muhlenberg County.

According to state police, the wreck occurred approximately at 8:25 a.m. on U.S. 4-31 about half a mile south of Central City.

Police identified the fatal victim as 32-year old David Blake of Belton, Kentucky who at the time of the two vehicle wreck was not wearing a seat belt.

According to police, 45-year old Marty Garrett of Greenville was driving a coal truck northbound on U.S. 4-31 when the vehicle driven by Blake veered into the northbound lane and hit the coal truck head-on.

As a result of the wreck, police say Blake’s vehicle hit a guardrail and came to rest in the northbound lane facing west, while the coal truck caught fire and came to rest in the roadway blocking both lanes of traffic.

Blake was pronounced dead at the scene by Muhlenberg County Coroner Tony Armour and Garrett was transported by a privately owned vehicle to the Muhlenberg Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
