A mayor of a local town has resigned to take another job.
WFIE TV reports Dawson Springs Mayor Ross Workman has resigned to take a job as manager of the Golden Pond Planetarium at the Land Between the Lakes. Mayor Workman has served since he was appointed in 2008 and defeated Jenny Sewell by 12 votes in 2010.
Dawson Springs City Council is now tasked to name a replacement within 30 days, or it then becomes Governor Steve Beshear’s job. The governor likely knows some qualified candidates, considering Dawson Springs is his hometown.
In other political news from Hopkins County, Circuit Court Clerk Karen McKnight has filed her papers to run for re-election.
Ms. McKnight is a Democrat and is currently unopposed in this May’s Primary Election.
Meanwhile, two people have announced their intentions to seek the state house seat of 5th District Representative Melvin Henley, who is retiring after this year.
Republican and former representative Kenneth Imes of Murray has filed his paperwork with the Secretary of State’s office, while Murray Democrat Hal Kemp tells the Murray Times and Ledger he will also file for the open seat.
Former 1st District Congressman Carol Hubbard has already filed his papers to run for re-election as 1st District State Senator.
