The Department of Defense is facing major budget cuts, but President Barack Obama vowed today that the nation’s military will still be a force to be reckoned with. Over the next 10 years, the defense department will reportedly be faced with a $489 billion budget cut and possibly an additional $500 billion in budget cuts next year. According to Obama, the new defense strategy is designed to refocus national security priorities after nearly 10 years of fighting overseas and spending billions of dollars to finance the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and not to mention the countless lives of service members who were killed in combat. The President announced today the new strategy was the brain child of civilian and military leaders and will also center around counter terrorism. It's unclear how the new strategy will affect the Fort Campbell military installation. **
