Less wrecks in Hopkinsville in 2010

The number of wrecks in the city limits of Hopkinsville dropped by over a hundred last year.

Final numbers show there were 1,138 traffic collisions—137 less than the 1,275 in 2010. Numbers provided by the Hopkinsville Police Department show 160 of those wrecks caused injury and three people lost their lives in wrecks in the city.

The month with the most wrecks last year was September, when there were 108 collisions and April featured the least amount of wrecks at 77. One would think there would have been a spike in wrecks in the snowy months of January and February, but both months were well below 2010 numbers at 84 and 102, respectively.

The opening of the Pennyrile Parkway extension combined with an increased presence by Hopkinsville Police in high volume traffic areas likely deserve credit for the drop off in.
