The final day of 2011 was a tragic one in Trigg County, where a Cadiz woman died in a house fire on Princeton Road, also known as KY Highway 139.

Kentucky State Police responded to the blaze just before 11am along with the Cerulean and Montgomery Volunteer Fire Departments.

When crews arrived, the home at 3987 Princeton Road was already fully involved. KSP says 87-year old Mamie Banister of Cadiz and her daughter had been in the home, and that the daughter’s attempts to rescue her mother were unsuccessful.

Ms. Banister succumbed to her injuries and her daughter had to be taken to Trigg County Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The State Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire and KSP was assisted on the scene by the Cadiz Police Department and Trigg County Sheriff’s Office.
