There were no major mis-haps or incidents in the City of Hopkinsville while bringing in the new year, though HPD did arrest a man on drug trafficking charges yesterday morning.
The incident began as a routine traffic stop around 3:30am at the intersection of E 19th and Woodmill, according to the arrest card from Officer Robert Sibal, which says he pulled over 19-year old Brandon Smith of Hopkinsville for not having an illuminated license plate.
When he got to the vehicle, he reportedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from Smith’s vehicle and a search of the car turned up a quantity of the illegal weed in the console.
There was also reportedly a grinder in the vehicle, which is commonly used to grind marijuana. Smith was charged with Trafficking in Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, driving with more than one driver’s license and not having his license plate illuminated.
