A Clarksville woman is in jail on 1-million dollars bond on child abuse charges, while her one month old child fights for life at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

A news release from Clarksville Police says officers were called by Child Services to 65 Durrett Drive Monday to the report of child abuse.

The infant had been admitted to Vanderbilt after suffering a fractured skull and ribs. It was also determined the baby had a brain bleed.

The mother, 24-year old Penselyn Loyola, told police she had dropped the baby three times in the last month. Once she dropped her infant down a flight of stairs and twice in the shower while bathing.

She also reportedly said the baby had been hit in the head with a video game controller. At no time did she seek medical attention for the injuries, nor did she tell her husband about the incidents—according to Clarksville Police.

The child remains in Vanderbilt and is listed as “medically unstable” and several tests are still pending. Loyola is charged with Aggravated Child Abuse and Neglect and is lodged in the Montgomery County jail.
