|
Long time North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il has died over the weekend at the age of 69. The dictator allegedly died from an apparent heart attack according to state media reports from the communist country. Millions of North Korean citizens were reportedly shocked and upset following news of his death. A Pyong Tek, South Korean native and Army spouse 44-year old Kyong Suk Dawson says she knew his death would happen sooner or later after she heard reports he was ill. Kim Jong Il reportedly suffered a stroke in 2008 and was rarely seen in public, but state media released video of the dictator in good health while attending various events over the years. Last year, the North Korean leader announced his third and youngest son, Kim Jong Un would be his successor. Meanwhile, Dawson says she is hopeful that the two Koreas would now have better relations following the 69-year old’s death. The North Korean leader took to power in 1994 after the death of his father, Kim Il Sung. During his leadership of the isolated communist nation, Kim Jong Il has been accused of many terroristic plots including master-minding the bombing of South Korean officials while they were visiting Burma, now known as Myanmar in 1983 and bombing a Korean Air Flight that claimed the lives of all passengers on board. Since the Korean war in 1950, the two Koreas have been divided by a demilitarized zone and remains heavily fortified by American troops. ** |
