An Oak Grove man was treated at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital Saturday evening after accidentally shooting himself while playing with a gun.

The report from the sheriff’s office says Deputy Brandon Hawkins and Detective Ed Stokes were called to the hospital just after 8:30 after officials there reported a patient with a gunshot wound.

The victim is identified as 19-year old Rekeno Williams of 1335 Hugh Hunter Road, whose sister told police her brother was in his room playing with the gun when she heard a shot go off. She asked him if he was okay and he said he’d shot himself.

The sister wrapped the wound and took him to the hospital. Williams reportedly said he was having problems getting the gun to fire until it went off.

The sister said she didn’t want the gun in her home anymore and it was taken by police into evidence.
