WHOP, Hopkinsville and those who have listened to radio programs across the country over the last several decades have lost a true friend—as longtime Early Bird Show co-host Dave Ralston has passed away as a result of a long illness at the age of 73.
Ralston chose to come back home to Todd and Christian Counties nearly ten years ago and finished the last eight and a half years of his illustrious broadcasting career at WHOP on the Early Bird Show.
A native of Fairview, Ralston worked at major radio stations in New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Miami, St. Louis and other metropolitan cities.
WHOP General Manager Mike Chadwell talked about Ralston’s long career and time in Hopkinsville, saying he was a “true broadcast professional” from the “old school of broadcasting.”
Everyone who knew Dave liked Dave because of his easygoing demeanor and likeability. You couldn’t not like him, especially when he’d answer nearly any question with “you bet your life!”
Dave would do anything for anybody and that’s why this radio station and community will never be quite the same without him.
Ralston is survived by his daughter Darla of Florida, sister Margaret Taylor of Fairview and brother Retired General Joe Ralston of Alaska.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton.
