Hoppers Baseball: The Hoptown Hoppers play their second home game in as many nights as they host the Madisonville-Tradewater Pirates. The teams played Sunday night, with Hoptown getting a 12-0 win in Madisonville. First pitch at Tiger Field is at 7:05, with the pre game show on the air at 6:45 on News/Talk WHOP and whopam.com.
Other games tonight have Fulton hosting Dubois County. The Railroaders are currently in 2nd place, trailing the Hoppers by 2 ½ games. Owensboro entertains Marion, with the Oilers and Madisonville tied for third, five games behind the Hoppers.
MLB: Cincinnati plays game two of its series at Milwaukee, with Atlanta meeting Miami in National League action. Interleague play has the Chicago Cubs hosting the LA Angels and St. Louis meets Houston.
College Football: Another Ohio Valley Conference player has been named to the Walter Payton award watch list. Murray State receiver Walter Powell is among the 20 who were announced to the list Monday. The St. Louis native was second in all purpose yards in FCS last season at 193 yards per game.
It’s the second time in three seasons a Racer has made the Payton Award watch list. The Payton award is given to the most outstanding player in Football Championship Subdivision.
College Basketball: The Louisville Cardinals will be receiving the floor on which they won the NCAA championship this spring. Coach Rick Pitino is holding a news conference this afternoon to announce a portion of the Georgia Dome floor will be sold to aid pediatric cancer research.
It’s the second straight year Northwestern Mutual has purchased the floor and donated it to the winning school. Kentucky received the winning floor from the 2012 national championship game in New Orleans.
Murray State will have the first RACERHOOPALOOZA August 15-16. This year’s guest of honor will be former Murray State coach Mark Gottfried, now the head coach at NC State. NFL : The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed Denard Robinson. The Jaguars picked the former Michigan quarterback in the 5th round of this year's draft. Robinson is listed as an offensive weapon on the club's roster. Robinson was a four-year letterman at Michigan, setting the NCAA record for single season rushing yards by a quarterback in 2010, and ended his career with the most rushing yards by a quarterback in NCAA history with 4,495.
Robinson is the fourth player in NCAA history to gain 2,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing in a season twice in his career, doing it in the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Golf: Franklin’s Kenny Perry is the points leader in the chase for the Charles Schwab Cup on the Champions Tour. Perry currently has 1,508 points. Perry won a major recently, the Senior Players Championship and finished runner up at the Senior PGA Championship. The Senior US Open takes place later this week at Omaha Country Club in Omaha, NE.
