High School Baseball/Softball: The dates and times for the 8th district baseball and softball tournaments will be announced at Fort Campbell High School early this afternoon.
Baseball has Christian County as the top seed meeting Fort Campbell in one semi final, with 2nd seeded Hopkinsville meeting University Heights in the other game. Softball will have top seed Christian County meeting Fort Campbell in one semi final, with 2nd seed University Heights meeting 3rd seed Hopkinsville. High School Basketball: The Madisonville Messenger reports Webster County girls basketball coach Parker McAllister and assistant Josh Steele have resigned this week. Steele announced his resignation after six seasons Tuesday to spend more time with his family. McAllister resigned Monday also to spend more time with his family. McAllister led Webster County to a 23-6 record, a 2nd region All A championship and was named 2nd region coach of the year in his only season as a head coach.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports the University of Tennessee’s student judicial affairs director was fired earlier this week amid a probe of reported improper relationships with student/athletes. 32-year-old Jenny Wright was terminated by the university Monday, even though she offered to resign last week when the alleged allegations first were known, but was denied by the school.
The university began looking into the alleged allegations last week, but has declined to comment about the accusations, how many student/athletes are involved or how school officials first learned of the alleged behavior.
College Football: A University of Kentucky spokesman says safety Ashely Lowery will return to school in June. Lowery was released from a Georgia hospital last week after being involved in a horrific traffic accident 10 days ago. Lowery suffered only minor injuries. It’s not known when Lowery will be able to return to football, though he is expected to make a full recovery.
MLB: The Cincinnati Reds look for their 5th straight win in Miami tonight against the Marlins, with pre game coverage at 5:40 on News/Talk WHOP. Other National League action this afternoon has Atlanta at Arizona, with Chicago meeting Colorado and St. Louis playing the NY Mets this evening.
NBA: Two games on the schedule this evening have Miami hosting Chicago with the Heat leading the Eastern Conference series 3-1 and Memphis is at Oklahoma City leading the series 3-1.
NHL: Two members of the original 6 begin their Western Conference semi final series this evening as Detroit skates at Chicago.
