College Basketball: Louisville goes for its third national championship and the first since 1986 this evening as the Cardinals meet Michigan in the National Championship game at the Georgia Dome. In New Orleans, it’s a day of rest for Louisville and Connecticut before they meet in the women’s national championship game. The teams have played once this season with Connecticut winning 72-58. Former University of Kentucky player Archie Goodwin says the decision to leave UK was his own. In an interview aired over the weekend on WLEX-TV, Goodwin said his heart was telling him to leave. He also stated the top ranked recruiting class coming to Kentucky next season did not affect his decision.
Kentucky Sports Radio reports on its website Kentucky Mr. Basketball Dominique Hawkins of Madison Central will announce his collegiate decision this week. Coach Allen Feldhaus, Jr. says the announcement will come either Wednesday or Thursday. Hawkins has been waiting for an offer for Kentucky and has said if he is offered a scholarship, he will accept it.
MLB: The St. Louis Cardinals host Cincinnati in their home opener this afternoon at Busch Stadium, with the Chicago Cubs playing a matinee game against Milwaukee and Atlanta takes on Miami this evening.
Minor League Baseball: The Bowling Green Hot Rods host the Lansing Lugnuts in their home opener at Bowling Green Ballpark this evening, while the Nashville Sounds begin a series at Greer Stadium against Oklahoma City.
