High School Basketball: University Heights saw its string of 18 consecutive first round victories in the Touchstone Energy All A Classic come to an end at the hands of Model 68-56. UHA is now 8-10 on the season. 1st region representative Carlisle County also lost this morning to 5th region winner Bardstown 61-46.
College Basketball: Top 25 games tonight have 3rd ranked Michigan hosting Purdue, 6th ranked Arizona welcomes UCLA, 10th rated Gonzaga hosts BYU, 16th rated Virginia Commonwealth meets cross town rival Richmond.
NFL: The New York Times reports Cam Cameron, fired by the Baltimore Ravens as offensive coordinator Dec 10th, said it was a “brilliant move.” Cameron says the move to let him go put the entire team on alert.
Cameron offered no ill will toward the Ravens and has been rooting for them in the post season. At the time of the firing, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said it was the hardest thing he ever had to do as a coach.
San Francisco quarterback Colin Kapernick has filed for the trademark “Kapernicking”. ESPN reports the US Patents and Trademark office website shows the registration was filed January 14th.
Kapernick intends to use it on t-shirts, with some of the proceeds from sales going to a group which organizes camps for children with congenial heart failure. “Kapernicking” is when Kapernick kisses his flexed bicep.
MLB: The Arizona Diamondbacks have reportedly traded outfielder Justin Upton to the Atlanta Braves. MLB.com says third baseman Chris Johnson is also going to the Braves.
Heading to Arizona is outfielder Martin Prado, pitchers Randall Delgado and Zeke Spruill, first baseman Brandon Drury, along with shortstop Nick Ahmed. Prado is expected to start at third base for Arizona. The trade will allow Justin Upton to play with his brother BJ in the outfield for the Braves.
