The second round of the Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl takes place across the state tonight, with several area teams still alive.

Class 2-A: Caldwell County hosts Hancock County, with the winner to play either Murray or Owensboro Catholic who play in Owensboro this evening.
Class A: Russellville travels to Kentucky Country Day, with the winner to meet Mayfield or Holy Cross who play in Mayfield this evening.
Class 4-A: Madisonville goes to Owensboro, with the winner playing either Lone Oak or Warren East who tangle in Bowling Green this evening.
Class 6-A: Henderson County hosts Louisville Eastern, with the winner to meet either Oldham County or Ballard who play this evening at Oldham County.

Other season opening games include Murray State hosting Brescia, Austin Peay entertains Samford and Tennessee meets Kennesaw State.
Women’s action has Austin Peay at UAB, Murray State hosts Western Kentucky and Louisville hosts defending national champion Texas A&M.
Kentucky’s women open their season against Delaware State Saturday, with pre game coverage at 11:45 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.
Western Kentucky’s men also open their season tomorrow night at Southern Miss.
The new judge overseeing the case against Murray State basketball player Zay Jackson has rejected a plea deal which recommends pre trial diversion. Judge Craig Clymer says the deal overlooks the seriousness of the actions against the 20-year-old Jackson. The Paducah Sun reports Clymer instead offered Jackson the choice of a year long jail term or taking the case to trial.
Jackson was supposed to be sentenced in October after pleading guilty to hitting two people with his car in the parking lot of Wal Mart in Murray in September. If Jackson takes the deal offered by Judge Clymer, sentencing will take place November 21st.
College Football: Kentucky is off this week, but other SEC games have Tennessee hosting Missouri and Vanderbilt at Ole Miss.
