College Basketball: Kentucky won its final exhibition game rolling over Transylvania 74-28. The Wildcats held the Pioneers to just 10 points following halftime. UK’s highly heralded freshmen scored 42 points led by Nerlens Noel with 15, Willie Cauley-Stein added 12, and Archie Goodwin added 10 points and six rebounds, while Alex Poythress added 5.
Madisonville’s Jon Hood added 14 off the bench. Transy’s Isaiah Dooley—a former Christian County Colonel did not score for the Pioneers. Kentucky opens its season Friday against Maryland at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, with pre game coverage at 6 pm on Lite 98.7.
Murray State also won its exhibition game with Freed Hardeman 87-74. First team Associated Press pre season all American Isaiah Cannan had 19 points, five assists and four rebounds in the win. Jeffrey Moss and Stacy Wilson each added 16 points. The Racers open their season Friday night hosting Brescia University.
Tennessee rolled to an easy 99-57 exhibition win over Victory University. Quinton Chevious led the Vols with 15 points. Tennessee opens its season Friday night against Kennesaw State. Vanderbilt also won its final pre season tune up 69-48 over Delta State. Vanderbilt plays Nicholls State Saturday afternoon in Nashville.
Women’s scores: Austin Peay cruised to a 101-67 win over Martin Methodist, with six players scoring 10 or more points. Austin Peay begins its season Friday at UAB.
Kentucky defeated Bellarmine 113-33 in exhibition play, with six Wildcats scoring in double figures. Kentucky opens its season Saturday with Delaware State, with pre game coverage at 11:45 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.
College Football: Joker Phillips will coach the final two games of the season for the University of Kentucky. Phillips was fired on Sunday. The Wildcats are idle this week, but return to action against Samford November 17th. The Southeastern Conference announced Monday the Samford game will kickoff at 6:30 Hopkinsville time.
Heading into Saturday’s home game with Florida Atlantic, former Fort Campbell and current Western Kentucky running back Antonio Andrews ranks second in the nation in all purpose yards with an average of 219 yards per game.
Andrews’ 392 all purpose yard performance last Thursday against Middle Tennessee is the second best in school history. Andrews is first in the Sun Belt Conference not only in all purpose yards, but also in rushing at 117 yards a game, which is also the 13th best average in the nation.
NFL: Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak says had he been the team owner, he would have called his team out. Owner Bud Adams said Sunday the Titans were “grossly outcoached and played” from start to finish in the Titans 51-20 loss to the Chicago Bears. Adams said he plans to evaluate everyone from players to coaches. The Titans play at Miami Sunday.
