The Kentucky High School Athletics Association has announced archery will now be a championship sport. Commissioner Julian Tackett made the announcement today in Lexington. Kentucky is one of the first states to offer archery as a varsity sport, with the regional and state championships to take place in late February and early March. Archery becomes the third new sport added this year, joining bass fishing and competitive cheerleading.
Reports out of Knoxville indicate University of Tennessee wide receiver Da’Rick Rogers has been suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules. The Knoxville News Sentinel reports coach Derek Dooley will address the situation following practice today. Rogers was the SEC’s leading receiver last year, catching 67 passes for 1,040 yards. Rogers was also disciplined during Tennessee’s spring practice this year.
Murray State coach Chris Hatcher says former Ohio State running back Jammal Berry is currently listed third on the depth chart. According to WPSD, Hatcher says Duane Brady is the number one running back and will take a majority of the snaps. However, Hatcher is hopeful Berry can add depth to the running back position. The Racers open the season September 1st at Florida State.
NBC Sports.com reports University of Tennessee basketball freshman Derek Reese underwent shoulder surgery earlier this week. A news release from the school says the 6-7 Reese will miss six months after repair of a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
Major League Baseball action this afternoon has Houston at St. Louis, with Cincinnati at Philadelphia and Atlanta at San Francisco this evening.
Three pre seasons games in the NFL this evening include the Tennessee Titans hosting Arizona, Jacksonville at Baltimore and Green Bay at Cincinnati.
