Golf: Christian County hosts a quad match against Hopkinsville, Muhlenberg County and Henderson County at Western Hills.
College Football: Kentucky coach Joker Phillips spoke to UK alums at the annual alumni kickoff luncheon Wednesday in Louisville. The Courier Journal reports Phillips told those in attendance that he is aware Kentucky is the underdog in the season opener against Louisville, and pointed out that the team that runs the ball well, stops the run defensively and avoids turnovers wins the game.
Tennessee coach Derek Dooley says the Volunteers football team is confident heading into next week’s season opener against North Carolina State in Atlanta. The Vols have 10 returning starters on offense and seven on defense.
College Basketball: The NCAA is reportedly looking further into Kentucky’s recruitment of prize recruit Nerlens Noel. Sports Illustrated reports investigators went to Noel’s prep school earlier this month. The investigators also went to the high school Noel attended back in May. A UK spokesman declined comment on the matter.
The University of Louisville introduced 6-10 Mangkok Maithang to the media Wednesday. The Courier Journal reports Mathiang has signed a financial aid agreement to continue his basketball career. Maithang played at IMG Academy in Florida. He was born in Africa and lived in Australia for years before coming to the US.
Bellarmine University will be hosting the 2013 NCAA Elite Eight at Freedom Hall. The Courier Journal reports the Division Two games will be played March 28th and 30th, with the national championship game to take place at Phillips Arena in Atlanta April 7th. The title game is being played in Atlanta due to the 75th anniversary of the NCAA Final Four.
NFL: The Tennessee Titans host the Arizona Cardinals this evening at LP Field, with Jake Locker the starting quarterback. The Tennessean reports the Titans coaching staff is hopeful Locker’s start will be better than the one last week against Tampa Bay. Coach Mike Munchak says the starters will play into the third quarter this evening.
LLWS: The Goodlettsville, TN team has won its way into the American championship game of the Little League World Series with a 4-3 win over Texas. The Texas team will play again tonight against California to determine who gets a rematch with Goodlettsville on Saturday.
