Monday’s High School Sports Scores
Volleyball: University Heights lost to Caldwell County 3-0 in the 2nd region All A Classic, Caldwell County also defeated Webster County 3-0, Muhlenberg County defeated Hopkinsville 2-1, Hopkins Central over Union County 3-1.
Boys Soccer: Trigg County shutout Todd Central 2-0, Muhlenberg County also shut out Dawson Springs 2-0, Ballard Memorial edged Lyon County 3-2.
Girls Soccer: Henderson County over Caldwell County 8-1, Lyon County shutout Hopkins Central 2-0, Madisonville and Owensboro Catholic tied at 2, with Muhlenberg County defeating Warren Central 4-1.
Golf: Hopkinsville hosted UHA, Muhlenberg and Webster County at Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club.
Boys: Hopkinsville had a team score of 146, UHA had 160, Muhlenberg County 161 and Webster County 162. Jack Gardner of Hopkinsville was medalist with a three under par 32, TJ Janes had 35, Dylan Henderson 39 and Wade Perry 40.
UHA was led by Cameron Allen with 37, Tadd Switzer with 38, Austin Knight and Dalton Putty each scored 41.
Girls: Anna Moore of UHA tied for medalist honors with Cassidy Thomas of Webster County with 43, with Dacie Bolton leading Hopkinsville with 44. Hopkinsville won the team event over Webster County 197-211.

College Football: Kentucky named Maxwell Smith as its starting quarterback for the September 2nd season opener against Louisville Monday. Smith threw for 819 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions in eight games as a true freshman last season. Smith also completed almost 55 percent of his passes.
Coach Joker Phillips said following practice Monday it was a tough decision to choose between Smith and Morgan Newton, however, Newton is still somewhat bothered by a shoulder injury and can’t go as many reps in practice as the other quarterbacks.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports the University of Tennessee will make a change at starting safety for its season opener against North Carolina State. Junior Byron Moore has been moved to the first team, replacing Brent Brewer.
College Basketball: Austin Peay finished its Canadian tour with an 85-52 win over the ABC All Stars. Will Triggs led a quartet of double figure scorers for the Governors with 13 points, Jerome Clyburn and Preston Herring each added 11 and Chris Freeman added 10 for Austin Peay, who went 2-1 in Canada.
NFL: The Tennessee Titans made it official Monday, announcing second year quarterback Jake Locker will be the opening day starter against New England September 9th at LP Field. Locker will also start Thursday night when the Titans hosts Arizona.
NHL: The Nashville Predators announced Monday veteran forward Mike Fisher signed a contract extension. Fisher’s new deal will keep him for two more seasons at $ 8.4 million.
