High School Sports Schedule
Volleyball: Hopkinsville travels to Muhlenberg County, University Heights meets Crittenden County in the 2nd region All A Classic, Hopkins Central hosts Muhlenberg County.
Boys Soccer: Todd Central at Trigg County, Dawson Springs hosts Muhlenberg County, Lyon County at Ballard Memorial.
Girls Soccer: Caldwell County hosts Henderson County, Logan County at Franklin Simpson, Madisonville at Owensboro Catholic, Hopkins Central hosts Lyon County.
Golf: UHA, Webster County and Muhlenberg County will meet Hopkinsville at Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club.
Weekend Wrap: Christian County’s volleyball team defeated 13th ranked Greenwood at the Bluegrass Invitational earning coach Rick Erickson his 100th career win. After play on Saturday, Christian County is now 3-5 on the season.
Heritage Christian’s volleyball team finished second in the Middle Tennessee Slam Jam at Lancaster Christian Academy. HCA is 2-3 on the season.
Christian County golfer TJ Ferry was the medalist at the Hopkins Central Storm Invitational Saturday at Madisonville Country Club. Ferry shot a 69 to win by three strokes. UHA’s Cameron Allen and Hopkinsville’s Jack Gardner tied for third with 73, Tadd Switzer was 6th with 74 and Austin Knight, also of University Heights had a 77.
UHA tied Daviess County at 309 for first place, but lost in a scorecard playoff. Trigg County was fifth with 314, Hopkinsville 6th at 317 and Christian County was 12th with 339.
UHA Lady Blazer Anna Moore played in the Central Hardin Lady Bruin Invitational Saturday and fired an 85 to finish 29th. The tournament was won by North Hardin’s Lydia Gumm with a level par 72.
College Basketball: Austin Peay played its second Canadian exhibition game Sunday, falling to A Game Hoops 81-71. The Governors were led by Will Triggs 25 points and 15 rebounds. Austin Peay finishes its tour this evening against the ABC All Stars.
NFL: Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak had originally penciled in the third exhibition game to name a starting quarterback. However, neither Jake Locker nor Matt Hasselbeck have been overly impressive in the first two games. Munchak says he’s not ready to announce his starter for Thursday night’s game against Arizona at LP Field.
Meanwhile, the Tennessean reports linebacker Gerald McRath’s season is over. McRath played through pain in his left knee during training camp, but it’s been decided McRath will undergo surgery to repair a partially torn patella tendon and be placed on injured reserve.
LL World Series: Goodlettsville, TN’s team is a perfect 2-0 in the US pool following a 9-6 win over California Sunday. The team will play in the winner’s bracket of the US pool Wednesday.
Golf: Steve Fox of Hendersonville, TN won the US Amateur Championship Sunday at Cherry Hills Country Club outside of Denver. Fox defeated Michael Weaver on the 37th hole, after rallying from two down in the match play final.
Franklin’s Kenny Perry finished tied for third at 12 under par at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open on the Champions Tour. Perry was one stroke behind Willie Wood, who defeated Michael Allen on the first hole of a playoff.
The Wyndham Championship was suspended Sunday due to heavy rains in Greensboro, NC. Sergio Garcia takes a one shot lead over several golfers including Tim Clark and Jason Dufner as play resumes this morning.
