Murray State senior to be Patrick Newcomb of Benton is ten shots off the lead following an opening round 74 Monday. Matt Atkins of Owensboro matched Newcomb’s 74, with Will Beard of Bowling Green firing a 77. Bobby Wyatt of Mobile, Alabama has a one shot lead heading into play today following an opening 7 under par 64.

TSN of Canada reports the National Hockey League Players Association will submit its response to a consortium of owners and commissioner Gary Bettman this afternoon in Toronto. The league fired the first salvo last month with a proposal which considered a reduction in hockey related revenue which included a roll back in players salaries.
NHLPA president Donald Fehr indicated the response will include the suggestion of a luxury tax. There are 33 days remaining before the collective bargaining agreement expires, at which time if there is not a new deal, players would be locked out.
