MLB: A full slate of games includes a matinee game between the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Tonight’s action has St. Louis at Colorado, Cincinnati hosts San Diego and Atlanta hosts Miami.
College Football: The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports the University of Georgia has contacted 19 Penn State football players about transferring. Thus far, six players have left Penn State’s program in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal, including running back Silas Redd who announced Tuesday he is going to Southern California.
Auburn Undercover.com reports on its website former Dixie Heights quarterback Zeke Pike will not be with the Tigers as they begin fall camp today. Pike graduated high school early and participated in spring drills at Auburn, however he was arrested in June on a public intoxication charge and sent home.
Card Chronicle.com reports Trinity High School’s Ryan White has changed his college commitment. White had committed to Louisville in February, but now is headed for Vanderbilt. White is ranked by Scout.com as the 15th best cornerback in the nation. He is considered as one of the top five prepsters in Kentucky.
Two internet sources indicate Kentucky has picked up another football commitment for 2013. 247 sports.com and Rivals.com report wide receiver Deangelo Yancey has committed to the Wildcats. Yancey, who caught 28 passes for 561 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior, is the 12th member of the 2013 recruiting class.
Florida State cornerback Greg Reid has been dismissed from the team for violation of team rules. Coach Jimbo Fisher did not provide details in a statement, however Reid was arrested last month for marijuana possession. Florida State opens its season against Murray State September 1st.
NHL: The Nashville Predators will place individual game tickets for the 2012-13 season on sale Saturday at 10 am at Bridgestone Arena. The Predators will also host an open house that includes the popular used equipment sale, locker room tours, an open skate on the ice at Bridgestone Arena and a pro shop sidewalk sale.
The Predators play their regular season home opener against the St. Louis Blues Saturday, October 13th.
