The Ohio Valley League playoffs begin this evening in Marion as the Bobcats host Owensboro in a single elimination game to determine who will face the Hoptown Hoppers. First pitch is at 7 pm.
Meanwhile, the Hoppers worked out today in preparation for the opening game of their playoff series Wednesday night. Coach Grayson Crawford says it doesn’t matter who the Hoppers play, but says the Hoppers will be as good as their starting pitching.
Tomorrow night’s game airs on the official station of the Hoppers, Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and whopam.com, with coverage from either Marion or Owensboro at 6:50 pm.
Madisonville and Fulton will open their semifinal series tomorrow night at Elmer Kelley Stadium in Madisonville.
Major League Baseball action tonight has St. Louis hosting Los Angeles, Cincinnati at Houston, Atlanta at Miami and Chicago at Pittsburgh.
University of Minnesota basketball coach Tubby Smith and the school have agreed on a contract extension. Smith’s new deal will take him through the 2016-17 season. Terms were not immediately known.
Smith has not won an NCAA tournament game since leaving the University of Kentucky. Smith’s Gophers made it to the championship game of the NIT last season and won 23 games.
Team USA plays its final Olympic basketball tune up this afternoon against Spain in Barcelona. It will be a matchup of the top two teams in FIBA and a rematch of the 2008 Gold Medal game won by the US in Beijing. Tip off is set for 3:30 Hopkinsville time.
