OVL Baseball: The Hoptown Hoppers are off this evening, but have a three game lead over Madisonville and lead Fulton by 3 ½ games. The Hoppers return to action Saturday night at Owensboro and will be home Sunday evening to play Marion. Tonight in the OVL: Fulton plays Madisonville for the second straight night at Lohaus Field in Fulton, while Owensboro welcomes Marion.
Major League Baseball this afternoon has the Chicago Cubs hosting Houston, with St. Louis hosting Pittsburgh this evening, along with Atlanta welcoming Washington and Cincinnati plays at San Francisco.
Several media reports out of Georgia say Georgia running back Isaiah Crowell was arrested early this morning on three weapons charges, two of them felonies. The arrest resulted from a vehicle checkpoint near the Georgia campus. One of the handguns was reported to have an altered serial number.
Three passengers in the vehicle were not arrested. It’s also reported Crowell is still jailed and has been suspended from the team. Crowell was Georgia’s leading rusher last season and was the SEC 2011 Freshman of the Year.
The NBA’s top draft pick, former Kentucky basketball standout Anthony Davis, received another honor Thursday. Davis was named the Southeastern Conference Male Athlete of the Year. Davis will now take his wares to the NBA and play for the New Orleans Hornets.
