The Paducah Sun and WPSD-TV report Lone Oak football players Joeshawn Starks and Bronson Owen have transferred to Paducah Tilghman. Both have made eligibility requests to the Kentucky High School Athletics Association. Starks sat out all of last season due to disciplinary reasons. Tilghman football coach Randy Wyatt expects both players to clear and hopes to have an answer in the next couple of weeks.
There are several interleague games in Major League Baseball this evening including the Atlanta Braves at the New York Yankees, Cincinnati at Cleveland and the Chicago Cubs and White Sox playing each other.
The Hoptown Hoppers have a half game lead on Marion heading into tonight’s game at Owensboro. First pitch is at 7 pm. Other action in the Ohio Valley League this evening has Fulton at Madisonville.
While we’re on the Hoppers, they will play Madisonville in a doubleheader when the teams meet July 14th at Elmer Kelley Stadium. The games will start at 4 pm. The doubleheader is due to a lost game early in the season due to the untimely death of Madisonville player Reid Rizzo.
The College World Series continues today in Omaha. Florida faces Kent State in an elimination game at 4 this afternoon, followed by SEC rivals Arkansas and South Carolina at 8 this evening.
LaDainian Tomlinson is set to announce his retirement from the NFL today. Tomlinson will sign a one day contract with the San Diego Chargers, then make his retirement official. Tomlinson leaves as the NFL’s 5th all time leading rusher. He was fifth overall selection by the Chargers in the 2001 NFL draft and played in San Diego until he was released in 2010. Tomlinson spent his last two seasons with the New York Jets.
Yahoo! Sports reports Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks has turned down a three year contract extension. Brooks’ current contract runs out after the NBA Finals. He was offered a three year extension worth just under $11 million according to league sources. Brooks and his agent will resume negotiations after the season. The Thunder trail Miami 2-1 with game four of the finals tomorrow night in Miami.
