Hoppers Baseball: Following an off day, the Hoptown Hoppers are back in Ohio Valley League action hosting the Madisonville-Tradewater Pirates on Military Appreciation Night. The Hoppers have already beaten the Pirates this week, winning 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Last night in the Ohio Valley League: Owensboro defeated Madisonville 7-2 and Marion moved into outright first place, a half game ahead of the Hoppers with a 3-1 win over Fulton.

High School Football: A ceremony to rename the Hopkinsville High Football Block House in honor of legendary coach Fleming Thornton will be held today. The ceremony, which will feature several guest speakers, will take place at the Block House at 4 this afternoon.
High School Softball: The Kentucky Softball Coaches Association has announced its all state teams. Two members of Christian County’s 2nd region championship team were named to the Class 3-A first and second teams, with Maggie Glass named to the first team, Jasmine Matchen named to the second team.
College Baseball: The College World Series begins today in Omaha, with upstart Stony Brook taking on UCLA and Florida State goes against Arizona.
College Football: The Lexington Herald Leader reports University of Kentucky offensive lineman Sam Simpson is retiring because of a series of back injuries over the last year. The sophomore was listed second on the depth chart behind Matt Smith at center. He will remain as a student coach.
College Basketball: New NCAA rules have allowed coaches to work with players two hours per week during the summer, and the Leaf Chronicle reports Austin Peay coach Dave Loos says he likes what he sees from his incoming freshmen. Loos says there are some things he’s seen that are encouraging, but there is plenty of work to do.
NFL: The Tennessean reports Tennessee Titans top draft pick Kendall Wright left practice early Thursday after straining his right shoulder diving for a Jake Locker pass during Thursday’s OTA. Wright is the only remaining pick taken in this year’s NFL draft by the Titans that has not signed. Coach Mike Munchak says Wright will sit out next week’s three day mini camp.
Minor League Baseball: The Nashville Sounds opened a home stand with Omaha falling to the Stormchasers 4-2, with game two of the series this evening.
The Bowling Green Hot Rods lost the finale of a series to West Michigan 9-1. The Hot Rods open a series with Fort Wayne this evening.
