Christian County High School has named its new girls soccer coach. 25-year-old Josh Culver, who assisted Clint Willis in running both the boys and girls programs last season, will take over as the new coach for the girls program.
Making their first appearance in the Kentucky National Insurance/KHSAA State Baseball Tournament in Lexington, the South Warren Spartans of the 4th region defeated Central Hardin in today's opening game 3-1. The Spartans scored what proved to be the game winning runs in the bottom of the 6th inning on a bases loaded 2 out error. The Spartans now face the winner of Mercer County/St. X on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
The Kentucky High School Athletics Association has announced its 2013 class of induction into the Dawahares/KHSAA Hall of Fame. Next year’s class will include former Webster County basketball coach Jon Dee Wilson and three sport standout Pascal Benson of Henderson City High School.
Other inductees of note include the all time leading scorer in girls’ basketball in Kentucky Jamie Walz Richey, world champion sprinter Tyson Gay of Lexington, and legendary Elizabethtown baseball coach Ron Meyers. Inductees will be recognized at the Dawahares/KHSAA golf outing June 19th, with formal induction in the Hall to be held next March.
An autopsy is to be performed in Louisville on the body of Madisonville-Tradewater Pirates second baseman Reid Rizzo. The 20-year-old Rizzo was found dead in his bed of his host family’s home. The Madisonville Messenger quotes manager Steve Fowler as saying foul play is not suspected in Rizzo’s death.
Rizzo, a Cincinnati native, just completed his sophomore season at Lake Erie College. Rizzo hit .252 with 14 RBI in his sophomore campaign.
The Pirates plan to wear their black uniforms in this evening’s game against Owensboro to honor Rizzo.

Vanderbilt’s baseball team is one win away from reaching the NCAA Super Regionals if they can defeat NC State tonight in the Raleigh regional. Last night, the Wolfpack handed the Commordores their first loss in the regional 6-5. The winner plays top seeded Florida in Super Regional action next weekend in Gainesville.
The Courier Journal reports former Virginia Tech basketball commitment Montrezl Harrell committed today to play for the University of Louisville. Harrell made his commitment after visiting Louisville this weekend. The 6-7 Harrell played last season at Hargraves Military Academy was released from his letter from Tech following coach Seth Greenberg’s firing following last season and will enroll at U of L this fall.
