Heritage Christian Academy's baseball and softball teams continued play in the KCAA State Tournaments Friday in Georgetown.
The Warriors ended up winning their baseball game against Bluegrass Christian that was suspended from Thursday in a forefit. The Warriors will meet Lakeside in the championship game today.
Because of poor field conditions, the Lady Warriors semi final game against Lakeside was postponed Friday. The game will be played today.
Greenwood is the champion of the 4th region softball tournament as the third ranked Lady Gators defeated top ranked and defending state champion Allen County Scottsville 4-3. Greenwood moves to the Rawlings/KHSAA State Fast Pitch Tournament next week in Owensboro.
Meanwhile, Christian County will learn its oppponent in next week's state tournament once Ryle and Conner complete play today in the 9th region championship.
The Kentucky New Era reported this morning Fort Campbell will be searching for a new athletics director following the resignation of Kenneth Janikowski. Janikowski has served in that role for the last two years in addition to his teaching duties. Janikowski says he wants to spend more time with his family. He was first the girls basketball coach from 2009-11.
The Princeton Times Leader reported this morning interviews for the Caldwell County boys basketball coaching vacancy will begin next week. The Tiger program is searching for a replacement to Steve Smiley, who resigned last month after three seasons as coach.
Hoppers Baseball: The Hoptown Hoppers rallied from a 9-4 deficit to defeat Fulton in the season opener last night 11-9. Hoppers starter Clayton Dulin struggled early on and the Hoppers commited a couple of early errors. Jason McDonald came on in relief and gave the Hoppers five strong innings, along with some timely hitting from Brett Pirdle and Jake Sandlin in getting the win. The Hoppers continue their season opening three game road series this evening at Madisonville.
College Baseball: Kentucky's first game in the NCAA tournament took over six hours and 21 innings, but the Wildcats lost to Kent State 7-6. The game was the second longest in NCAA tournament history. The Wildcats play in an elimination game this afternoon.
Louisville rallied from a two run deficit to defeat New Mexico State 3-2 in the first round of the Tucson regional. The Cardinals get the winner of the late game from last night between Arizona and Missouri this evening.
Austin Peay fell to Oregon in its opening game in the Eugene Regional 6-5. The Governors play Indiana State in an elimination game today.
Vanderbilt defeated UNC Wilimington 8-2 in its first game at the Raleigh regional and will face host NC State today.
College Basketball: Kentucky will face Notre Dame in the SEC-Big East challenge at Notre Dame November 29th. Tennessee will play at Georgetown November 30th and Vanderbilt hosts Villanova December 1st.
