High School Baseball/Softball: Post season play begins across the Commonwealth today.
8th District Baseball at Christian County: Hopkinsville meets Fort Campbell at 5:30, followed by Christian County and University Heights. Coverage of both games with the Heritage Bank pre game show at 5:15 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and whopam.com.
5th District at Lyon County: Crittenden County meets Lyon County at 5, followed by Trigg County and Livingston Central.
6th District at Henderson County: Webster County meets Union County at 6 pm.
13th District at Russellville: Todd Central meets Logan County at 5, followed by Russellville and Franklin Simpson at 7:30.
5th District Softball at Lyon County: Trigg County meets Livingston Central at 5, followed by Lyon County and Crittenden County.
6th District at Webster County: Webster County hosts Henderson County at 6.
13th District at Todd Central: Franklin Simpson meets Russellville at 5:30, followed by Todd Central and Logan County.
High School Basketball: The Courier Journal reports Owensboro Catholic’s Becca Greenwell has made the USA Basketball Women’s U17 team following tryouts this weekend. Greenwell missed all of her junior year with a knee injury. Greenwell was one of 12 players chosen to play on the US team that will play in the FIBA World Championships August 17-26 in the Netherlands.
College Baseball: The field is set for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament which begins Wednesday at Pringles Park in Jackson, TN.
Number four seed Eastern Illinois meets 5th seed Morehead State at 3 pm, followed by three seed Jacksonville State and six seed Southeast Missouri.
The two losers Wednesday play an elimination game at 11 am Thursday, with two seed Eastern Kentucky meeting the best seed of the game 1-2 winners at 3pm, while top seed Austin Peay plays the worst seed of the game 1-2 winners at 7 pm.
The tournament continues through Saturday.
The Sun Belt Conference tournament begins Wednesday at Bowling Green Ballpark. Western Kentucky will play three games in pool play, meeting top seed Florida Atlantic at 7 Wednesday, then face four seed South Alabama Thursday at 7 and then five seed Louisiana Monroe at 7 pm Saturday. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday.
The Southeastern Conference baseball tournament begins tomorrow in Hoover, Alabama. Kentucky opens the tournament against Ole Miss at 9:30 Tuesday morning, while Vanderbilt meets Georgia later in the day.
College Softball: One day after eliminating Kentucky from the NCAA tournament, Louisville was eliminated Sunday by Michigan in the Louisville regional 4-0.
Meanwhile, Tennessee defeated Virginia Tech 2-1 and 10-2 Sunday to advance to the Super Regionals where they will meet Georgia later this week.
Horse Racing: After two heartbreaking losses in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, trainer Bob Baffert says Bodemeister will not run in the Belmont Stakes.
Bodemeister lost the run of the Blackeyed Susans Saturday by a neck to Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another, who left Pimlico Race Course Sunday headed to New York to begin work for the Belmont Stakes June 9th.
Minor League Baseball: The Nashville Sounds wrapped up a series with Tucson with a 2-1 victory Sunday. The Sounds open a series tonight at Las Vegas.
The Bowling Green Hot Rods lost at Fort Wayne Sunday 2-1, with the finale of the series set for this evening.
