WHOP Sports reported Thursday that Murray State’s basketball team had accepted an invitation to play in the Charleston Classic next basketball season. We also reported that Southern Illinois was in the event, however, WPSD-TV reports once the Racers accepted the invitation to Charleston, the Salukis dropped out and will be replaced by Auburn University.
Reports indicate with a new coach in Barry Hinson, SIU had been trying to get out of the event. The tournament will take place November 15-18 in Charleston, South Carolina.
It’s an interleague weekend in Major League Baseball, beginning this afternoon at Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs meet the cross town White Sox. Cincinnati meets the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, and the Atlanta Braves are at Tampa Bay.
St. Louis, however, is in Los Angeles to face the Dodgers.
Major League Baseball owners have approved changes to the playoff structure for this
season, giving the go-ahead for wild card winners to host the first two games
of the Division Series. One wild card berth was added for both leagues in
March, creating a one-game playoff to determine the teams that will reach the
divisional round -- the first change to MLB's postseason since the six-
division, eight-team format was adopted for the 1995 season.
Because the 2012 schedule had already been announced, MLB needed to get rid of a
travel day and decided to give the lower-seeded wild card winners home field
for the first two games of the divisional series. The 2-3 format will only
apply to this season.
