University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari and his staff will serve as honorary grand marshals for the Pegasus Parade next Thursday in Louisville. The coaches will bring along the national championship trophy for fans to see along the parade route. Singer Cyndi Lauper is the grand marshal of the event, part of Kentucky Derby festivities.
It appears Kentucky basketball administrative assistant Rod Strickland will not be joining new coach Larry Brown’s staff at SMU. It was first reported last week by Kentucky Sports Radio’s website Strickland was leaving John Calipari’s staff.
Calipari told ESPN’s Andy Katz Tuesday his coaching staff would stay intact. Calipari also said he hopes to sign one more recruit to his stellar recruiting class.
University of Kentucky basketball signee Alex Poythress of Clarksville Northeast has added another award to his list of post season honors. The Leaf Chronicle reports Poythress was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Class AAA All State basketball team for the second consecutive year.
Multiple stakes winner Isn’t He Clever will not run in the Kentucky Derby. The Courier Journal reports trainer Steve Ausmussen said the horse is out of consideration for the Derby. Isn’t He Clever finished 8th at the Arkansas Derby.
Major League Baseball this afternoon has the St. Louis Cardinals at the Chicago Cubs, while Cincinnati hosts San Francisco this evening along with Atlanta at Los Angeles.
Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne has been named as one of the three finalists for the NHL Vezina Award for top goaltender. It’s the second year Rinne has been nominated for the award.
