The University of Arkansas will hold a news conference this afternoon to introduce John L. Smith as its new football coach. Smith replaces Bobby Petrino who was recently fired. Smith had been Arkansas special teams coach the last three years before becoming the head coach at his alma mater, Weber State last December.
Former University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball coach Pat Summitt is working on her memoir. Summitt will collaborate with Washington Post columnist Sally Jenkins on the book, which will cover Summitt’s “full life journey” including her battle with onset early dementia-Alzheimer’s type. The book is expected to be out in spring 2013.
Major League Baseball: The national champion Kentucky Wildcats basketball team will be honored prior to the first pitch of tonight’s game between the Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants at Great American Ballpark. Coach John Calipari and many of the players will be on hand for the event.
Other games this evening include the St. Louis Cardinals against the Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves at the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Nashville Predators general manager David Poile has been nominated for NHL General Manager of the Year. It marks the third straight year Poile has been nominated for the award. This year's other nominees are Doug Armstrong of the St. Louis Blues and Dale Tallon of the Florida Panthers.
