The University of Tennessee has announced after 38 seasons, women's basketball coach Pat Summitt has been named head coach emeritus. Summitt is the all time wins leader among NCAA basketball coaches with 1,098 wins and eight national championships. Holly Warlick, who has been an assistant for 27 seasons after a playing career for the Lady Vols, will become the head coach. Summitt was diagnosed last fall with early onset dimentia. She will continue to work for UT's athletics department in a variety of endeavors.
ESPN Dallas is reporting that legendary coach Larry Brown has reportedly agreed to terms to become the coach at Southern Methodist. Brown is the only coach to lead a college program, Kansas, to a national championship and win an NBA title. Brown has not coached since coaching the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats in 2010.
Meanwhile, Kentucky Sports Radio reports Kentucky administrative assistant Rod Strickland will be leaving John Calipari’s staff to join Brown as an assistant coach at SMU.
The former aide and mistress of former Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino has resigned her position. Jessica Dorrell’s decision to step down Tuesday as the student-athlete development coordinator was mutual. Dorrell will be paid about 14-thousand dollars to settle all matters. Dorrell also agreed she would not attempt to sell or profit from her affiliation with Razorback athletics.
