High School Baseball: Christian County defeated Whitefield Academy 10-7 at the William Workman Classic in Clarksville. The Colonels play two games today against Rossview and Northeast.
High School Softball: University Heights split a pair of game at the Lady Laker Classic, defeating Russell County 7-1 and losing to Adair County 8-0. The Lady Blazers continue play in the tournament today. Todd Central lost to Clinton County 7-4 in the 4th region All A Classic.
College Baseball: Former Hopkinsville High pitcher Justin Hageman was the losing pitcher in Western Kentucky's 5-0 loss to Arkansas State. Hageman went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Hageman is now 2-4 on the season. Western and Arkansas State play game two of the series today in Jonesboro.
Austin Peay lost its second consescutive Ohio Valley Conference game, losing the first game of a three game set to Murray State 13-7 at Raymond C. Hand Park in Clarksville. Game two of the series is this afternoon.
College Football: Spring practice concludes for Louisville, Western Kentucky and Vanderbilt today with scrimmage games.
College Basketball: Another freshman is defecting from Western Kentucky's basketball program. A Western spokesman said Friday former Clark County standout Vinny Zollo is leaving the program. Zollo joins Derrick Gordon who announced his plans to leave the program last week, Zollo averaged almost four points and three rebounds a game this season for the Hilltoppers.
LSU named its new basketball coach Friday. Johnny Jones--who has spent the last 11 seasons as head coach at North Texas--will replace Trent Johnson who left the program earlier this week to become the new head coach at TCU. Jones played at LSU, going to the Final Four as a freshman in 1981 and was an assistant for LSU for 13 seasons and was a part of the 1986 team which also went to the Final Four. Jones is 205-162 in his coaching career and led North Texas to two Sun Belt Conferfence championships and two NCAA tournament appearances.
NHL: The Detroit Red Wings evened the Western Conference Stanley Cup playoff series with the Nashville Predators at a game apiece after a 3-2 win last night in Nashville. Game three is tomorrow in Detroit, with coverage at 11 am on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.
Minor League Baseball: The Nashville Sounds lost their season home opener 6-4 to the New Orleans Zephyrs, with game two of the series this evening at Greer Stadium in Nashville. The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated Lake County for the second straight game 2-1, with game three of the four game set tonight at Lake County.
PGA Tour: Nashville's Brandt Snedeker fired a 67 in the second round of the RBC Heritage Friday at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Snedeker's two day total is four under par, five shots behind leader Colt Knost at nine under.
Champions Tour: Paducah's Russ Cochran fired a four under 67 in the first round of the Encompass Insurance Pro Am of Tampa Bay Friday and is two shots behind leader Bruce Fleisher heading into today's second round. Franklin's Kenny Perry is tied for 32nd after a one over par 72 on Friday.
