Former Hopkinsville High football coach Craig Clayton has landed a new job in the Nashville area. The Tennessean reports Clayton has been named as the new coach at Hillsboro High School. Clayton was fired two months ago following seven seasons as football coach at Franklin High. Clayton led the Rebels to the 2008 state championship game and compiled a 65-22 record in seven seasons at Franklin, who finished 8-4 in the 2011 season.
ESPN reports the Tennessee Titans will host a visit from former Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl guard Steve Hutchison. League sources say Hutchison was on the Titans radar before beginning to pursue free agent quarterback Peyton Manning. The Titans want to beef up their offensive line with a veteran leader.
The source also says if the Titans could sign Hutchison, it would make coming to Nashville more appealing to Manning. Hutchison is also said to be close to current signal caller Matt Hasselbeck, as the two played together in Seattle. The report also says Manning will meet with Titans coach Mike Munchak and a number of Titans offensive assistants today or tomorrow.
In addition to the NCAA First Four tonight in Dayton, the National Invitational Tournament also begins play. Anthony Hickey and the LSU Tigers are at Oregon, while top seed Tennessee meets Savannah State and Middle Tennessee entertains Marshall.
