The PNC/KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 begins tomorrow at Lexington’s Rupp Arena. Region 2 representative Hopkinsville puts its 32-2 record on the line against 12th region winner Southwestern who is 27-8 on the season.

The NCAA Tournament begins this evening with the First Four in Dayton, Ohio. Western Kentucky meets Mississippi Valley State at 5:40, with the winner to face Kentucky in the South region Thursday in Louisville. The field for the Women’s NCAA Tournament was announced Monday night. Kentucky is the two seed in the Kingston regional and will open against 15 seed McNeese State Saturday afternoon at 3:20 in Ames, Iowa.
Louisville is the 7th seed in the Raleigh region and will face 10 seed Michigan State at 12:30 Saturday in College Park, Maryland. Tennessee is the 2nd seed in the Des Moines region and will play 15 seed UT Martin Saturday at 4:10 pm in Chicago. Vanderbilt is the 7 seed in the Fresno region and will play 10 seed Middle Tennessee Sunday at 5:10 pm in Nashville.
Austin Peay begins spring practice today, with 16 players returning on offense and defense. Coach Rick Christophel tells The Leaf Chronicle the emergence of new leaders could be critical to the Governors effort to improve on last year’s 3-8 record.
The Tennessee Titans have entered the Peyton Manning sweepstakes. The Tennessean reports Manning will meet with coach Mike Munchak in the next few days at an undisclosed time or place. Titans owner Bud Adams told the Tennessean Sunday Manning was the man he wants and will be disappointed if he does not get him. Manning is also to meet with the Miami Dolphins sometime this week.
The Nashville Predators won a 5-4 shootout over the Phoenix Coyotes last night. The Predators return to action Thursday at San Jose.
