Hopkinsville's Lady Tigers saw their season come to an end in the quarterfinal round as 5th region winner Marion County won 67-30. It was a tough night of shooting for the Lady Tigers, who shot only 20 percent for the game and turned the ball over 19 times. Hopkinsville had only one player in double figures as senior Christy Soldo closed out her career with 10 points.
The Lady Tigers finish the season 32-5, while Marion County improved to 33-4 in advancing to the semi finals.
Other quarterfinal games: Lincoln County defeated Magoffin County 73-59, Dunbar over Butler 70-52 and Manual defeated Montgomery County 71-33.
Today's semifinal games: Dunbar meets Manual at 10 am, with Marion County to face Lincoln County in the second game, with the two winners to play for the state championship at 8 this evening.
The Kentucky Wildcats survived a stern test from LSU in defeating the Tigers 60-51 in the SEC Tournament Friday in New Orleans. Michael Kidd Gilchrist led the 31-1 Wildcats with 19 points. Former Christian County star Anthony Hickey had 10 points in a losing effort for LSU.
Kentucky meets Florida in the first semifinal at noon today, with pre game coverage at 10:30 on Lite 98.7.
Ole Miss pulled the upset of the tournament, downing second seed Tennessee in overtime 77-72. The Rebels face either Vanderbilt or Georgia in the second semi final this afternoon.
The Louisville Cardinals have advanced to the finals of the Big East tournament in New York with a 64-50 win over Notre Dame. The Cards will face Cincinnati, who upset second ranked Syracuse 71-68, in the championship game this evening.
Top ranked Alabama survived in extra innings defeating Kentucky 3-1 in nine innings. Former Christian County standout Griffin Joiner hit her third homerun of the season in the loss for UK. The teams play again today in Lexington.
In the OVC: Murray State is at Tennessee State and Austin Peay hosts Tennessee Tech in a doubleheader.
Murray State lost 5-2 to Purdue at Reagan Field. Game two of the series is this afternoon.
Austin Peay lost to Northern Illinois 5-1 in 10 innings in its first game of the Riverview Inn Classic. The Governors host Dayton at 2:30 this afternoon.
Western Kentucky defeated Western Illinois 7-2. Former Hopkinsville High pitcher Justin Hageman gets the start for the Toppers in game two of the series this afternoon at 1 pm.
The Nashville Predators wrap up a three game homestand with the Detroit Red Wings at Bridgestone Arena this evening at 7, with the broadcast on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.
