Girls: Hopkinsville got 19 points from Christy Soldo and 14 from Haley Cook in defeating University Heights 52-41. The Lady Blazers were led in scoring by Kiki Smith with 14 and Dennayia Holmes with 12. Hopkinsville is now 22-4 on the season and finishes district play 6-0, while UHA is 18-4 and finishes tied with Christian County at 3-3 in district play.

Boys: Hopkinsville trailed by as many as 21 in the second half, but rallied to beat Muhlenberg County 74-72, Apollo defeated Christian County 67-44, Heritage Christian Academy defeated North Hardin Christian 56-54, Trigg County rolled over Dawson Springs 83-48 as coach Mike Wright got his 200th win as Trigg County’s coach, Logan County nipped Breckinridge County 61-59, Hopkins Central defeated Caldwell County 74-61, Madisonville edged Webster County 51-48.
Union County got by Crittenden County 45-43, Lyon County over Lone Oak 77-67, Graves County over Ballard Memorial 60-42, Carlisle County over Calloway County 63-50, Greenwood defeated Allen County Scottsville 60-53, Bowling Green rolls over Owensboro 76-39, Warren Central over Franklin Simpson 92-80.
Former Christian County baseball player Geoff Bailey has been enshrined in the Beloit College Hall of Fame. Bailey was honored in a ceremony Saturday night according to the Kentucky New Era. Bailey was part of a pitching combination to throw the first no hitter in Beloit College history and still has the all time victory leader for Beloit College with 22.
Top ranked Kentucky got 13 points and 13 rebounds from freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in downing 8th ranked Florida 78-58 at Rupp Arena. Doron Lamb led Kentucky with 18 points and Anthony Davis added 16, while freshman Marquis Teague had a double-double of 12 points and 10 assists.
Kentucky is now 24-1 and 10-0 in the SEC and has the nation’s longest home winning streak at 49 games. Kentucky is back in action Saturday at Vanderbilt, with pre game coverage at 6:30 on Lite 98.7

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports another University of Tennessee football assistant has left the staff. One of the few holdovers from Lane Kiffin’s staff—Steve Rubio—is no longer on the staff. Rubio was infamously linked to the NCAA’s recent investigation of the football program. It’s not known if Rubio left on his own or was terminated.
Meanwhile, two graduating seniors for UT were invited to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Defensive lineman Malik Jackson and running back Tauren Poole will participate in the combine to be held February 22-28.
A person familiar with discussions says the University of Memphis may join the Big East Conference in all sports. The Associated Press reports the Tigers would likely join in 2013 when other schools from Conference USA—Houston, Central Florida and SMU—are set to join the league. CBSSports.com reports a deal could be announced later this week.
The Ohio Valley Conference has released its pre season poll and Austin Peay was picked to win the league this year. The Governors received seven of nine first place votes. UT Martin was picked 8th and Murray State was picked ninth.
Tenneseee Titans general manager Ruston Webster says the team is in good hands with quarterbacks Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker, and downplayed Tuesday the talk of trying to acquire Peyton Manning if he becomes a free agent. The Indianapolis Colts must either pay a 28 million dollar payout March 8th or Manning can become a free agent.
The Nashville Predators fell to Vancouver 4-3 in a shootout at Bridgestone Arena. Preds goalie Pekka Rinne stopped 28 of 31 shots, while Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo made 37 saves on 40 shots. The Predators return to action Thursday against the Ottawa Senators.
