Kentucky remains number one in both major college basketball polls and Murray State inches up in both. The Wildcats are number one for the third straight week in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today top 25 polls, with Murray State tied with Florida for 7th in the ESPN poll and 9th in the Associated Press poll.
Kentucky freshman Anthony Davis was named the SEC Player of the Week and ESPN.com co National Player of the Week. Davis averaged 20 points, eight rebounds and seven and a half blocks in wins over Tennessee and South Carolina last week. Davis broke former LSU standout Shaquille O'Neals SEC freshman record for blocks in a season at South Carolina. Davis has 116 blocks on the season.
University of Louisville freshman Chance Behanan was named Big East co Rookie of the Week after his performance against Rutgers. Behanan--who played his last two years of high school basketball at Bowling Green High--had a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds, leading the Cards to their fourth straight win. Behanan's double-double was the 6th of the season.
University of Louisville coach Charlie Strong today elevated quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson to offensive coordinator. Watson was the quarterbacks coach in the 2011 season and took over play calling duties four games into the season. Strong also announced Sherrone Moore has been hired to coach tight ends and offensive line coach Dave Borberly will be the Cards running game coordinator this season.
