High School Basketball
Girls: Hopkinsville entertains Christian County in 8th district action this evening. Tip off at Tiger Gym is at 7:30, with the Heritage Bank pre game show at 7:15 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.
Other games: Dawson Springs at Hopkins Central, Lyon County at St. Mary, Livingston Central welcomes Graves County, Muhlenberg County at Owensboro Catholic
Boys: Fort Campbell hosts Trigg County, Dawson Springs hosts Christian Fellowship, Lyon County entertains Union County and Muhlenberg County hosts McLean County.
Wednesday’s women’s scores: In the OVC--- Murray State edged Morehead State 81-78 and UT Martin defeated Austin Peay 88-83.
Tonight’s games: In the OVC---10th ranked Murray State takes on Southeast Missouri, Austin Peay hosts Tennessee Tech. Former Christian County standout Donovan Kates and Manhattan meet Marist.
Women’s games: In the SEC—5th ranked Kentucky meets Ole Miss, 8th ranked Tennessee plays South Carolina and Vanderbilt goes against Auburn.
Wednesday was the first day of the national signing period. Kentucky signed 21 players including Kentucky Mr. Football Patrick Towles of Fort Thomas Highlands.
Western Kentucky signed 13, including two surprises. Defensive lineman Tyrone Pearson from Louisville Seneca and Kentucky high school’s third all time leading rusher Anthony Wales from Louisville Central.
Murray State signed 16 players including Glasgow High running back Jalen Sublett.
Louisville signed 24 players including 10 from Florida, Austin Peay signed 12 players, Vanderbilt inked 21 prospects and Tennessee signed 21 players.
Minor League Baseball
Plans are continuing as the possibility of Ohio Valley League baseball comes to Hopkinsville this summer. Christian County Chamber of Commerce president Carter Hendricks says the group is waiting for the Christian County Board of Education to approve the use of either Christian County or Hopkinsville High’s baseball field to be used by the Hoptown Hoppers this summer.
The school board is expected to make a decision at its next meeting later this month. Hendricks was a guest of Todd Hamilton on Sports Weekly Wednesday night.
The Nashville Predators wrap up a short two game road trip in Philadelphia this evening against the Flyers. The Predators return home to play St. Louis Saturday night at 7, a game you can hear on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.
