High School Basketball
University Heights lost its opening round game in the Touchstone Energy All A Girls State Tournament Wednesday to Magoffin County 75-67. The Lady Blazers trailed by as many as 22 in the game, before mounting a comeback. DeNayia Holmes led UHA in scoring with 22 points, followed Dannika Prater with 17. UHA is now 17-2 on the season and returns to action Monday night hosting Christian County.
In other games: 3rd region winner Owensboro Catholic nipped 1st region winner Murray 41-40 and 4th region winner Monroe County defeated Somerset 58-48.
Boys: Christian County and Hopkinsville play for the second time this season at Christian County’s Colonel Gym. The Tigers bring an 18-2 record into the game, while the Colonels are 5-14. Tip off at 7:30, with the Heritage Bank pre game show at 7:15 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and whopam.com.
Elsewhere this evening: Caldwell County travels to Livingston Central. In the Boys Touchstone Energy All A Classic: Webster County meets West Carter, Heath goes against Betsy Layne and Glasgow faces McLean County.
Girls: Hopkinsville travels to Grayson County, Christian County is at Fort Campbell, Crittenden County at Caldwell County.
High School Soccer
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s Board of Control passed a new alignment measure for soccer Wednesday. It make some changes in this area, with Todd Central moving from Region 2 District 3 to Region 4, District 13. The local schools—Christian County, Hopkinsville, University Heights and Fort Campbell will play in Region 2, District 8.
High School Volleyball
The KHSAA Board of Control has adopted a best of five format for post season volleyball matches beginning with the 2012 season. For regular season matches, the format defaults to a best of five, but schools can mutually agree to play a best of three match.
Anthony Hickey Jr. had 16 points, but it wasn’t enough as LSU lost to Mississippi State 76-71. LSU is back in action Saturday hosting Kentucky, with pre game coverage at 1:30 on Lite 98.7.
Peyton Siva had 16 points as Louisville defeated Villanova 84-74. Former Bowling Green High standout Chane Behanan added 14 in the victory for the Cards.
Western Kentucky’s Lady Toppers fell to Florida Atlantic 60-58 after coming back from an 11 point halftime deficit. The Lady Toppers are back in action Saturday at Florida International.
Tonight’s games: Western Kentucky at Florida Atlantic, Austin Peay is at Southeast Missouri.
Women’s games: Number six Kentucky is at Auburn, Murray State at Southern Illinois, number 15 Georgia meets Vanderbilt and ninth ranked Tennessee plays Alabama.
The University of Kentucky will wear a gray uniform when they play Tennessee next Tuesday. Kentucky is one of nine men’s and women’s programs that will wear what Nike calls a “platinium” uniform. The jerseys and shorts are grey, trimmed in Kentucky blue and white.
