Second ranked Kentucky got off to a slow start, but finished strong in defeating Auburn 68-53. Anthony Davis and Doron Lamb each scored 14 for the Wildcats who improved to 16-1 on the season and 2-0 in SEC play. UK returns to action Saturday at Tennessee, with pre game coverage at 9:30 am on Lite 98.7
LSU lost at Alabama 69-53. Former Christian County player Anthony Hickey, Jr. had eight points and five rebounds in 27 minutes. The Tigers return to action Saturday at Arkansas.
Tonight’s games: 14th ranked Murray State hosts Jacksonville State in Ohio Valley Conference action, while Austin Peay meets Eastern Kentucky. Western Kentucky plays North Texas, Tennessee takes on Mississippi State and Manhattan meets Iona.
Women’s games: Seventh ranked Tennessee takes on eighth ranked Kentucky, 24th rated Vanderbilt goes against Auburn.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports Tennessee walk on point guard Cory Stanton of Springfield, TN is now a part of the team. Stanton enrolled in classes Wednesday and cleared physical and academic requirements according to coach Cuonzo Martin. Stanton began his college career at Clemson last season and transferred to Lipscomb in July. He will begin practicing with the team Friday.
The Lexington Herald Leader reports two graduating seniors from Kentucky’s football team will play in the Casino Del Sol College All Star game Monday in Tucson, Arizona. Offensive lineman Chandler Burden and defensive back Anthony Mosley will play in the game, along with Murray State wide receiver Dontrell Johnson.
Interviews continue in Knoxville as the University of Tennessee searches for a defensive coordinator, however, the Knoxville News Sentinel reports another assistant coach could be leaving Derek Dooley’s staff. Offensive line coach Harry Heistand is a top candidate for the same position at Notre Dame.
Vanderbilt coach James Franklin defended his school’s recruiting practices Wednesday. The Tennessean reports the family of recruit I’Tavius Mathers—who committed to Ole Miss—says the Commodores were not truthful about the playing time Mathers would receive. Franklin through several media outlets said they were honest and did not guarantee playing time.
The Nashville Predators host the Colorado Avalanche in the second game of a home and home series at Bridgestone Arena. The Predators beat the Avalanche 4-1 in Denver Tuesday night. First puck drops at 7 pm.
