High School Basketball
The 2011-12 season tips off for several teams this evening.
Girls: Christian County plays at Muhlenberg County, Fort Campbell plays at Trigg County, Hopkins Central at Livingston Central, Murray High at Reidland, Crittenden County at Community Christian and Owensboro plays at Bowling Green.
Boys: Hopkins Central at Livingston Central, Murray High at Reidland, Graves County at Hickman County, St. Mary at Lyon County, Crittenden County at Community Christian.
Tuesday night, Hopkinsville opens its season hosting Logan County, with tipoff at 7:30. The Heritage Bank pre game show airs at 7:15 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.
The Lexington Herald Leader has released its pre season top 25 boys basketball poll. Trinity is ranked number one, followed by Ballard, Scott County, Rowan County and Bullitt East in the top five. Muhlenberg County is ranked 14th, Glasgow 17th and Marshall County is ranked 21st.
High School Football
The pairings are set for the Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl state championship games to be played Friday and Saturday at LT Smith Stadium in Bowling Green.
Class A Mayfield meets Hazard at 11 am
Class 2A: Glasgow takes on Covington Holy Cross at 3 pm
Class 6A: Trinity goes against Scott County at 7 pm
Class 3A: Louisville Central meets Belfry at 11 am
Class 4A: Franklin Simpson meets Highlands at 3 pm
Class 5A: Bowling Green takes on Anderson County at 7 pm
Kentucky football coach Joker Phillips has his final talk show of the season tonight at 5, followed by basketball coach John Calipari’s call in show at 6 on Lite 98.7.
The Tennessean reports Vanderbilt athletics officials will work “proactively” in retaining first year coach James Franklin after he led the Commodores to bowl eligibility in his first season. Chancellor of Athletics David Williams says there is not a deal in place yet, but he is hopeful of solidifying a good situation. Williams also says Vandy wants to make sure Franklin remains as football coach. The Commodores finished the regular season 6-6 after a win Saturday over Wake Forest.
Tonight’s games: Austin Peay—still winless in seven tries this season—plays at Lipscomb. Louisville puts its 5-0 mark on the line against Long Beach State, Vanderbilt takes on Xavier and Tennessee plays at Oakland.
