HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
The Courier Journal has released its pre-season Top 25 Boys Poll. Defending state champion Christian County is ranked 23rd, with Hopkinsville ranked 25th. Trinity is picked to win the state title this season with Ballard second, Scott County 3rd, Bullett East 4th, and state runner-up from last season Rowan County 5th.
Other regional teams in the poll: Muhlenberg County is ranked 13th, Glasgow 17th, and Marshall County 18th.COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Tennessee eased past Louisiana Monroe 85-62. SEC Player of the Week Trae Golden had 17 points and 11 assists to lead the Vols to the win. Tennessee is 2-0 on the young season.
Murray State hosts a double header at the CFSB Center, with the Lady Racers meeting Mid Continent at 5:15, followed by the Racers against Tennessee Temple.
Western Kentucky plays Tulsa at 11:30 this morning in the DirecTV Charleston Classic in Charleston, South Carolina. LSU is also playing in this event and if they and the Hilltoppers both lose today, they would meet on Friday.
Kentucky will play the first college basketball game in the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York next season. The Lexington Herald Leader reports the Wildcats will meet Maryland on November 9th in the Barclays Classic. Morehead State will play Long Island University of Brooklyn in the other game of the doubleheader. The new arena will serve as the home of the NBA's Brooklyn (currently known as the New Jersey) Nets.
Louisville guard Peyton Siva is now on the Cards wounded list. The Courier Journal reports Siva has a sprained ankle and will likely not play at Butler Saturday. Siva suffered the injury in practice earlier this week.COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Western Kentucky is preparing for Saturday's Sun Belt Matchup at North Texas despite an off-the-field distraction. Defensive coordinator Lance Guidry was arrested last Saturday on DWI charges in Baton Rouge before the Hilltoppers played LSU. Coach Willie Taggart confirmed Guidry will coach the rest of the season, but will face a "stern" internal punishment agreed on following a meeting between Guidry, Taggart, and Athletics Director Ross Bjork. The Hilltoppers have a shot of winning a share of the Sun Belt title for the first time since transitioning to college football's highest division in 2009.
The Tennessean reports Vanderbilt reserve safety Andre Simmons was arrested and charged with felony counts of burglary and robbery in connection with an on-campus event Tuesday. Coach James Franklin suspended the sophomore from the team indefinitely. Vanderbilt plays at Tennessee Saturday.NFL

Tennessee Titans return specialist Mark Mariani has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Mariani returned a punt 79 yards for a touchdown in last Sunday's win at Carolina.NHL

Champions tour player Kenny Perry says he will play a new golf club brand in 2012. Perry says after a 20-year partnership with Taylor Made, he will play Adams golf equipment. The deal will be officially announced December 1st.
