Girls: Christian County goes to Apollo, Hopkinsville hosts Lyon County, Russellville goes to Hopkins Central, Warren East hosts Clinton County, Henderson County entertains Owensboro Catholic and Webster County goes to Marshall County,
Boy/Girl Doubleheaders: Heritage Christian Academy hosts Bethel Christian, Madisonville entertains Caldwell County, McCracken County hosts Murray and Livingston Central travels to Community Christian.
The final week of the regular season has Hopkinsville ranked third in the latest Boys Cantrall Top 20 poll from the Lexington Herald Leader. The poll has Ballard first, Warren Central 14th and Henderson County ranked 24th.
Elizabethtown tops the Cantrall Girls Top 20 poll, with Henderson County 8th, Bowling Green 9th and Murray ranked 17th.
High School Football: Christian County offensive lineman Ethan Edwards is slated to sign a collegiate letter today. The ceremony will take place at 2:30 this afternoon at Christian County High School.
College Basketball: Former Christian County standout Donovan Kates had 2 points in Manhattan’s 90-72 win over Niagara, 13th ranked Louisville got a career high 25 points from Luke Hancock in defeating Rutgers 102-54.
Women’s action saw 18th ranked Kentucky rally to defeat 8th ranked Tennessee 75-71, Mississippi State nipped 16th ranked Vanderbilt 64-62 and 4th ranked Louisville rolled by Memphis 82-66.
Tonight’s games: Women’s OVC action has Austin Peay hosting Eastern Illinois and Murray State welcomes SIU Edwardsville.
Because of it being a travel day for Kentucky basketball, Coach John Calipari’s call in show and Big Blue Weekly will air Wednesday night beginning at 5 on Lite 98.7. Kentucky returns to action tomorrow night at Ole Miss, with pre game coverage at 4:30 also on Lite 98.7.
College Baseball: Austin Peay coach Gary McClure collected career win 800 Sunday as the Governors defeated Iowa 7-4 in the series finale, Murray State defeated Ohio University 7-6, with former UHA standout Matt McGowan going 3-4 with a couple of rbi’s. Western Kentucky swept a doubleheader from Southern Illinois 6-4 and 6-1.
College Softball: 7th ranked Kentucky won the championship of the Texas Classic Sunday, edging the 15th ranked Longhorns 6-5. Former Christian County standout Griffin Joiner did not have an official at bat, but did score a run in the game as Kentucky improved to 10-0 on the season.
Murray State won the Alabama State Invitational Sunday, defeating the host school 8-0. Former Christian County standouts Maggie Glass and Casey Castile each contributed offensively, Glass going 2-2 and Castile 1-2. Austin Peay lost 10-1 to IUPUI in five innings, Western Kentucky was blanked by Robert Morris 5-0.
Golf: Franklin’s Kenny Perry finished tied for 23rd at the ACE Group Classic, this week’s Champions Tour stop in Naples Florida. Perry finished at four under par for the three day event, 12 shots behind winner Kirk Triplett. Paducah’s Russ Cochran finished the event at 12 over par.
Bubba Watson broke an almost two year drought in winning the Northern Trust Open on the PGA Tour Sunday. Watson played bogey free golf on the weekend in getting his first win since taking the 2012 Masters.
