High School Football: First round action in the Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl begins this evening.
Class 5-A action includes a pair of 4-6 teams meeting at the Stadium of Champions as Christian County meets Barren County. It’s the fifth time in the last six years these teams have met in the opening round with Christian County winning all five games.
Hopkinsville plays its opening round game at Warren Central. The Tigers bring a 4-6 record into the game against the 5-5 Dragons. It’s the second consecutive season these teams have met in the opening round, with Warren Central getting the victory in 2012.
Both games kickoff at 7 pm with the Heritage Bank pregame show on the air at 6:35 on News/Talk WHOP and online at whopam.com.
Other 5-A games this evening have Graves County hosting Greenwood and Bowling Green entertains Apollo.
Class 3-A: Fort Campbell hosts Edmonson County, Trigg County goes to Monroe County, Webster County travels to South Warren and Paducah Tilghman hosts Adair County.
Class 2-A: Caldwell County hosts Hancock County, Union County welcomes Ballard Memorial, Murray hosts Butler County and Owensboro Catholic entertains Crittenden County.
Class A: Russellville hosts Kentucky Country Day, Mayfield welcomes Caverna,
Class 4-A: Madisonville hosts Allen County Scottsville, Calloway County goes to Warren East, Hopkins Central at Franklin Simpson, Owensboro hosts Breckinridge County.
Class 6-A: Henderson County hosts Muhlenberg County, McCracken County welcomes Boone County, Daviess County at Central Hardin and Marshall County at Meade County.

The KHSAA Volleyball state tournament begins today at Valley High School in Louisville. First round matches include 2nd region winner Henderson County meeting Green County, 4th region winner Logan County meets Raceland, 1st region winner McCracken County against Whitley County and 3rd region winner Apollo meets Assumption. The tournament runs through Sunday.
College Basketball: The Kentucky Wildcats open their season in Rupp Arena this evening. The nation’s preseason number one team hosts UNC Asheville, with pre game coverage at 4:30 on Lite 98.7.
Other games this evening include Murray State opening its season at Valparaiso and Austin Peay welcomes Division Two’s Oakland City College. Women’s action has Murray State hosting Robert Morris-Springfield, Kentucky travels to Marist and Tennessee begins its new season at Middle Tennessee.
Kentucky will play in the Champions Classic for the next three seasons. It was announced Thursday that Kentucky, Duke, Kansas and Michigan State will continue the series with games next year in Indianapolis, 2015 in Chicago and 2016 in New York. The 2013 Champions Classic takes place Tuesday night at Chicago’s United Center with Kentucky meeting Michigan State and Kansas playing Duke.
College Football: The Louisville Cardinals are in action this evening as they host Connecticut at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.
Kentucky has a mighty task tomorrow meeting 9th ranked Missouri at Commonwealth Stadium. Coverage of the game airs at 9:30 on Lite 98.7.
Other SEC action tomorrow includes Tennessee meeting Auburn, Vanderbilt goes against Florida and top ranked Alabama meets LSU.
Western Kentucky heads to the banks of the Hudson River to take on Army, with pre game coverage beginning at 10 am on News/Talk WHOP.
In the Ohio Valley Conference: Murray State hosts Eastern Illinois and Austin Peay travels to Tennessee State.
Kentucky Sports Radio reported Thursday the University of Kentucky will hold a news conference November 25th to talk about plans for the renovation of Commonwealth Stadium. Construction on the first phase will begin soon, with plans to renovate the locker room, coaches club and recruiting room among the projects to be completed by December, 2014. The second phase will see the press box move to the top of the stadium in early 2015, with that project to be completed in time for the 2015 season.
NHL: The Nashville Predators continue their long road trip this evening as they meet the Winnipeg Jets. First puck drops in the Great White North at 7 pm. The next Predators broadcast will be Sunday night when Nashville plays at New Jersey, with coverage at 6 on News/Talk WHOP.
